I placed my hands on my hips, tugging slightly on my bottom lip. “Need any help with the car?”
He stared at me a moment and furrowed his eyebrows together. He seemed to be thinking real hard as if I’d asked him a physics question or something. He cleared his throat. “Umm…no. I’m good. I’m particular about how I like my cars washed.”
I cocked my head at him. “Anal much.”
He started cracking up. “I had no idea you were into ass-play.”
I rolled my eyes and pushed him in the chest as I walked past him. “Whatever, get your mind out of the gutter.” He continued to laugh as I went to sit on the sidewalk in front of the car. “You’re not particular about how people watch you wash your car, are you?”
He gave me a half smirk. “Matter of fact, I am.” He strolled over, and bent down in front of me; his lip still curled up. “You see…” He went about adjusting my arms as if he were a photographer, prepping his model for a photo shoot. “You need to have your shoulders back like this with your chest poked out.”
I rolled my head back, letting my hair fall down my back and pushed my chest out. “Like this?” My question was loaded with innuendo.
“Yes. Perfect. Now, what to do with these legs. Hmm…” He brought his hand to his chin to think. “Ah…yes. I think having them open like this would be best. His hands slowly traveled up my legs to my knees, pulling them apart. Him touching me ever so gently had my body tingling all over. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, feeling the surge flow heavily through my veins. But the sensation quickly died when he no longer had his hands on me. Opening my eyes, I frowned. He was at the hood of the car, working his arm in a circle to create a lather of soap.
I blew out a breath, continuing to watch Cruz work his way around the car. He was careful not to miss a single spot. His muscles bulged with every stroke. His skin glistened under the sun from water and sweat. I’d never wanted to lick a person so badly. It was pure torture. But, hearing Ariana Grande’s song “Sometimes” playing over the stereo momentarily distracted me from the torture I was forced to endure. And as I started to hum along with the lyrics, an idea popped into my head. When he had his back turned to me, I got up to turn up the volume, just enough to where he wouldn’t notice the change. I smirked as I slowly walked back over to him, swaying my hips, carefully placing one foot in front of the other. I began to hum louder, the closer I got, then I started softly singing along with the words as I gently swiped my finger across the back of his neck to get him to turn around.
His eyes grew wide. “What you up to, Blondie?”
I ignored him, took the sponge out of his hand and seductively squeezed some soap on to my chest, while I rotated my hips in time with the beat. His eyes followed the stream of soap as it made its way down in between my tits.
Yeah, I got you now. Two can play this game, but I always play it better.
He licked his lips, eyes hazy with desire. Soon after, I noticed he was breathing harder. So, I continued to lather myself with soap – singing, and dancing. Walking forward I bumped him with my hip to move him out of the way, to take this show of seduction to the next level – by using the car as my prop. My stage.
“Lola we really don’t have time for this.” He was barely able to get the words out. I had him falling deeper into my trance as each second passed.
I upped the ante, placing both hands on the car in front of me, I bent over and shook my ass around in a circle.
“Oh…damn.” I heard him say under his breath. And it gave me all the incentive I needed to move forward. Onto the car. I rolled my hips, licked my lips and whipped my head around, adding more soap to my body as I dipped backed onto the car. I caressed every inch of my body with the sopping sponge. I had the tent in his pants at its peak.
“Lola…please stop this.” He struggled with the words. From the pained look on his face, I could tell he was battling the urge. I wished he’d just give in.

It’s election time in Spencer, Maryland, and the race for mayor is not a pretty one. In recent years, the small resort town has become divided between the local year-round residents who have enjoyed their rural way of life and the city dwellers moving into their mansions, taking over the town council, and proceeding to turn Deep Creek Lake into a closed gate community—complete with a host of regulations for everything from speed limits to clothes lines.
When the political parties force-feed two unsavory mayoral nominees on the town residents, Police Chief David O’Callaghan decides to make a statement—by nominating Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s German shepherd, to run as mayor of Spencer!
What starts out as a joke turns into a disaster when overnight Gnarly becomes the front runner—at which point his political enemies take a page straight out of Politics 101. What do you do when you’re behind in a race? Dig up dirt on the front runner, of course.
Seemingly, someone is not content to rest with simply embarrassing the front runner by publicizing his dishonorable discharge from the United States Army, but to throw in a murder for good measure. With murder on the ballot, Mac Faraday and the gang—including old friends from past cases—dive in to clear Gnarly’s name, catch a killer, and save Spencer!
Lauren Carr is the international best-selling author of the Mac Faraday, Lovers in Crime, and Thorny Rose Mysteries. The twelfth installment in the Mac Faraday Mystery series, Candidate for Murder will be released June 2016.
Lauren is a popular speaker who has made appearances at schools, youth groups, and on author panels at conventions. She lives with her husband, son, and four dogs (including the real Gnarly) on a mountain in Harpers Ferry, WV.
Why did you choose to write a series with a recurring character? Did you expect to keep Mac Faraday and his friends relatively unchanged from book to book, or do you purposely try to develop them over time?
I didn’t set out to center my books around a recurring character, who has now grown into a group of recurring characters. It simply happened.
In 2010, when I released It’s Murder, My Son, the first installment in the Mac Faraday Mysteries, Mac was a newly retired homicide detective who inherited two-hundred-seventy million dollars on the day the divorce from his cheating wife became final. He moved to Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland where he started a new life, solving mysteries instead of playing golf or tennis.
Honestly, I did not expect any of the characters to change from that first book. I grew up reading Agatha Christie and Earl Stanley Gardner. Perry Mason never changed. Yet, I find that my characters are doing a natural transformation, like real people, as the circumstances in their lives change and more of their quirks and idiosyncrasy come to light.
In Candidate for Murder, readers once again encounter Mac’s daughter Jessica Faraday and her husband Murphy Thornton. These two characters met and married in Three Days to Forever. They were newlyweds in Kill and Run, the first Thorny Rose mystery. In Candidate for Murder, they have been married for several months. Now, they are less lovey-dovey as they work on some minor marital differences—like what to do with Nigel. Readers—Wait until you meet Nigel! No, he is not a dog!
How would you categorize your books? (Or, into what genre would you place your books?) Examples might be … Suspense novel, Thriller, Cozy, Hard-boiled, Police Procedural, Paranormal. Cross-over. Do you find there are advantages/disadvantages to labeling it as such?
I started categorizing my books as “gritty cozies.” But I find that they are moving more into a police procedural category.
What was your greatest challenge in writing Candidate for Murder?
Writing a murder mystery with a political backdrop without allowing it to come across as political messaging.
Politics is a hot issue button this year and I went into writing Candidate for Murder knowing that I was using a hot backdrop for this story. But, I’m fearless when it comes to a literary challenge. Good writers are like athletes. If you want to improve, you need to write every day, or your writing muscles will get weak. If you don’t challenge yourself, then your writing will get stale, not just for you doing the writing, but for your readers.
Over the last seven years, our country has become so divided, especially in this election year. The purpose of Candidate for Murder is not to tell readers this is how it should be and this party is right and that one is wrong. Readers will notice that some of the political “guest” characters bear similarities to people who are currently in the news, but I make a point to never attach either candidate to a specific party or political viewpoint. Rather, I explore characters and the use of politics to achieve personal agendas.
Readers will see some similarities between local issues addressed during the campaign to national issues. Of course, a mystery with a political backdrop would not be complete without poking fun at how the media handles things.
I’m not a political person—really I’m not. I’m a registered independent!
However, I’m a writer and as a writer, I sit back and observe and ask, “What if ….”
That’s what I did with Candidate for Murder. I looked at how things are in our country right now. How could I not? It’s right there in my face. As a writer, I asked, “What if with so many people so angry, and so many people so unhappy with the current government, and neither political party nominating a candidate that the people want … a hero overflowing with integrity and character rose up to be put on the ballot—and that candidate was a dog?”
Candidate for Murder deals with the mayoral election in Spencer, a fictional small town set on Deep Creek Lake? How important is this setting to storyline?
The Mac Faraday Mysteries take place in Spencer, (a fictional town) set on Deep Creek Lake (a real lake) in western Maryland. This fictional small town ended up being perfect for Candidate for Murder. The election is a hotly contested race in a town that over the years has become divided. Sound similar? As it is explained in the opening chapters, Deep Creek Lake, a real lake located in western Maryland, is a resort area. Most of the lakeside residents, living in luxurious homes, are seasonal, coming in from Washington DC, Baltimore, and other areas. The year round residents are rural country folks, accustomed to a laid-back lifestyle. Yet, over the last several years, more and more of the seasonal big-city residents have moved in and infiltrated the local government and started imposing big-city regulations—upsetting the way of life for the town’s original residents.
As a result, Spencer is a town divided between the quiet country folks who have grown up in Spencer, and the big-city folks who want to change their town to reflect the urban area from which they have come.
I have a few friends who do live in and around Deep Creek Lake who have told me that this situation is a real brewing conflict. So, even though Spencer is fictional, the atmosphere is real. What is next for you? (Could be book-related or something personal … or both!)
By the end of summer, September 2016, Lovers in Crime will see the third installment for that series, Killer in the Band. Fans of the Lovers in Crime and the Thorny Rose Mysteries will get to know more about Joshua Thornton Jr (J.J.), Murphy’s identical twin brother and Joshua Thornton’s eldest son.
J.J. has graduated at the top of his class from law school and is returning home to spend the summer studying for the bar exam. However, to the Thornton’s shock and dismay, J.J. decides to move in with Suellen Russell, a lovely widow twice his age. The move brings long buried tensions between the father and son to the surface. When a brutal killer strikes, the father and son must set all differences aside to solve the crime before J.J. ends up in the crosshairs of a murderer.
In November, fans of the Thorny Rose Mysteries will see the second installment for that series, A Fine Year for Murder.

This book blown my mind away.
When the book is so good that you do not want to put it down, this book is. I read it until midnight, if only I do not need to wake up and work early. I could read the entire night but have no choice but to put my Nook down and charge it.
Michael is far the richest male character I EVER read in the book. This guy not only filthy rich but is so humble. I wonder if he is real, another Dagen will be lucky to pamper his love and his wealth as well.
This book is so emotional, funny and of course very hot. If you love European country like the Scotland, then you will enjoy reading this book. Not only you’ll be interested in the locations but gives an insight about castle and stuff.
This book is full of family love and closeness which I loved though his Uncles are superprotective for his own good and safety.
Dagen is very independent, successful and funny as heck. There are so many laugh out loud and intense moments that will blown your mind away. I so loved reading this book by the author. She did an amazing job. I cannot wait to read her other writings.
I received the ARC of the book in exchange of my honest review.

Then Adam LaRue enters Natasha’s classroom and her life, threatening everything. The gorgeous grad student isn’t just a kinky temptation – he knows her secret. And makes it clear that one way or another, he’ll have her in his bed.

Being greedy has no chance to success once true love prevails.
This a beautiful story not only about the love for animals but also a forbidden love. It is also a beautiful story about siblings and how far can you go to be there for your siblings.
The twists and turns of the story is beyond unbelievable. You will be surprised. Ms.Rachelle always amazes me with her writings. She always has heroine that you loved and sometimes hate until the last page. Connor and Nadine’s romance is unique but the attraction between this two is undeniable. The storm they went through to survive is very surreal. You will be awe and breathless.
If you love a heroine fireman, arts, animals, dysfunctional family, no doubt you will enjoy this book. It is hard for me to put it down.

“Excuse me, Ms. Riley?” A deep, smoky voice catches the attention of every atom of my being.
“Yes.” My breathy response embarrasses me. “Um, yes. That’s me.” I straighten in my seat, before I turn my eyes up to the man who spoke my name. Holy Jesus Christ! A tall, dark haired, green eyed god stands before me. He holds out his hand to introduce himself.
“I’m Dr. Clark. Dr. Cross is running a little late. I thought I could get started with some of the paper work while we wait.” I watch his lips move and I think I can hear the words. My arm moves of its own volition towards his palm. My hand slides into his and the gentle squeeze of his fingers around mine melts a part of me inside. We shake. The contact lasts longer than I’d usually be happy with. Not this time. I don’t want to drop his hand.
“Pleased to meet you.” My voice isn’t even recognisable as mine. I look up into his eyes and see them darken before me, the pupils grow wider. My heart beats wildly in my chest and I seat myself back down before my legs give out.
Dr. Clark steps around me and takes a seat at the other end of the sofa. A cool, fresh scent fills my senses as he passes and makes my core contract with excitement.
“If you would fill this out, please.” He hands me a clipboard with some papers attached to it. I pull my focus from the good Doctor and look at what he’s handed me. Name, address, date of birth… mundane basic information to register with The Clark Practice.
I dutifully start writing my details with the pen clipped to the board. I try, really hard, not to sneak a few glances back to Dr. Clark, but I can’t stop myself. My eyes feel drawn to him. Magnetically being pulled to admire his stubble covered jaw, his forest green eyes. Through the tops of my lashes I notice that he hasn’t stopped his watch of me. That thought heats my body faster than baking in the midday sun.

To the outside world, Kray Brooks had it all growing up.
Wealth. The devoting parents.
The beautiful girlfriend.
All of it a lie, except her. The woman he left behind thirteen years ago to try and achieve his real dream… to become a musician.
Life doesn’t always go according to the plan you set out for yourself.
Sometimes, you drift. Become lost, lose hope and crash.
For thirteen years he’s been drifting wherever his guitar takes him, avoiding his past. Never thinking of his future.
Not once did he think it would all catch up to him. Until it did.
“You in there or what?” Josh nudges me with his hip. His finger rises up to tap me on my temple, startling me out of my slumber. I stumble forward, damn near tripping over a guitar case that’s sitting on the edge of the sidewalk. I should be paying attention to where I’m going. There are many people here singing and offering up some sort of trick for money up and down this strip. Only the ones who can carry a tune catch my wandering eye for more than a second. Not that they all don’t deserve my attention, but the people who sing have a raw, natural talent. I become lost in their voices. Attuned. Familiar. There’s no sweet, tender, or rough and seductive voice close by. Therefore, whoever owns this particular case isn’t singing, or otherwise I may have pulled Josh to a sudden stop to listen before tumbling over it like an idiot. “Shit. Sorry about that,” I tell the man I notice standing up against the brick wall without looking at him. This is what I get for thinking about things I shouldn’t. “It was my fault,” Josh comments as we both bend down to shove the few dollar bills that fell out back into the case. The man behind us just mumbles something incoherent. I instantly feel worse for some reason. He’s worked hard for this money. In the heat no less. And here I am, scrounging around to make sure I gather it all up while assholes walk around me not giving a shit there are two people squatted down on the sidewalk. They just step around us, not bothering to offer help. Insensitive assholes. I reach into my purse and toss a hundred-dollar bill inside the case. I know most of these people spend their money on booze and drugs. I don’t care. Well, I do, really. They should be using it wisely. But who am I to judge? I only wish I could have heard him sing before we walk away. The talent they have is remarkable. It’s sad, really, how I enjoy listening to them sing on these streets for food, a home, or more than likely a fix of alcohol or drugs. I can’t help it; those voices carry me away. Some of them are truly mesmerizing. Wasted talent on a dirty street. I’m sure some are runaways with dreams shattered and hopes burned. This is the only way they know how to survive. The Hollywood record producers should listen to some of these talented people instead of shoving their lying butts into the faces of the fake boob Barbie to either get in her pants or rake her back over hot coals, sucking as much money out of her as they can. If only the rich would seek out the poor. To lend a hand to those who only think life has fed them nothing but shit. For these people to see that no matter how bad your life has been, if given the chance or a choice, you can become whoever you want to be, even if you’re alone doing it. I turn to the man whose face is darkened by the way he stands. His face is completely out of my sight with his chin tugged down to where it’s almost touching his chest. One black, shiny-booted foot rests up against the wall. His jeans hang low. He’s wearing a faded gray t-shirt that, if I’m correct, was black at one time. It also looks way too small, because my god, is it tight across his massive chest. He has shoulders any woman would love to reach around and grab as he lies on top of her. I’d give anything to see his face. To hear him sing. To observe and dissect his talent.
