Celebrity & Entertainment Obsession, Understanding our Addiction Book by Michael S. Levy

Book Description for Celebrity & Entertainment Obsession:

“Our celebrity captivation seems out of proportion,” says Michael S. Levy, PhD, addiction expert and author of CELEBRITY & ENTERTAINMENT OBSESSION: Understanding Our Addiction

 photo celebrity book_zpsqpjcitpj.jpg

Dr. Levy wrote CELEBRITY & ENTERTAINMENT OBSESSION to shed light on why we as a society are obsessed with people who work in the entertainment field—movies and television in particular—but singers, musicians sports figures and people on reality TV as well. Dr. Levy, whose previous book, Take Control of Your Drinking…and You May Not Need to Quit, resonated with many people, finds it remarkable that people who work in the entertainment field get more recognition and adoration than a competent brain surgeon who saves people’s lives, or a pathologist who has made inroads in cancer treatment.

This wasn’t always the case. Sixty years ago, a Gallup Poll study showed that people who were most admired included Einstein, Winston Churchill, Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur. Not one entertainer, sports star or media personality made the list. Fast-forward to 2000 – 2009 and we have stars like Bono, Tiger Woods, and Denzel Washington making the list.

Dr. Levy can discuss society’s obsession with beauty, how our vulnerability to addiction, our need for idols and our voyeuristic predispositions all contribute to our celebrity obsession as well as:

• How the mass media controls our thinking, the nature of our social intercourse and interactions with each other and our preoccupation with celebrities

• How the media exploits our voyeurism and how our voyeurism serves as a form of distraction and amusement

• Why being entertained has become our primary preoccupation

• Why celebrities’ real-life, off-screen stories get more publicity than anything they have done in their careers

Dr. Levy laments that television news programs focus as much, if not more, on the lives of high-profile celebrities than about other more important issues of the day. He believes that our obsession with entertainers is something to be concerned about since we will have missed opportunities to learn from others who could provide us with valuable ideas and standards for our young people. While the entertainment machine has given us a quick fix to feel good, Dr. Levy asks: “is our obsession with celebrities the best use our time? What will be important to reflect on at the end of our lives: Will it be what we knew about some celebrity or might it be something else?”

What a perfect book to justify our infatuation with celebrities
I love reading this book. What a perfect book to justify our infatuation with celebrities. It gives justice to the adoration we have for certain celebrities. I for one adore Dakota Johnson the stars of Fifty Shades Darker which will be shoot very soon.
I would go crazy if I meet her in person which explains in this book why I feel like that for her. She is not only beautiful but very humble and very good actress. Reading this book I acknowledge my adoration for her. This book will give you all the details and information why we adore certain celebrities, singers or the showbiz world.
I highly recommend this book and understands why paparazzi is so crazy about taking photos of celebrities. Why not get yourself a copy and learn how fascination is not a bad thing.

A Piece Of You Book By Daniel M. Annechino

Homicide Detective Sami Rizzo is at it again! She never dreamed “America’s Finest City,” would be tormented by yet another serial killer, but for the third time in the last five years a depraved maniac is stalking the streets of San Diego. Based on her qualifications and prior successes dealing with multiple murders, who else would Captain Davison assign to head the investigation?

 photo A Piece Of You_zpsvrxvk0f1.jpg

Different from Sami’s past experiences, this fanatic is like no other. His methods of killing defy everything profilers think they know about serial killers. As an intense investigation begins and bits and pieces of evidence emerge, no one can understand his motivation. He’s merciful, yet brutal. And just to make things even more confusing, all of his victims are blood-related. Is he settling a vendetta? Did he randomly pick a name out of the phone book and begin a rampage? Or is there a deeper story?

photo A Piece Of You siged book_zps8gyskwqz.jpg

Based on very little evidence and a lot of gut instincts, Detective Rizzo pieces together a complex puzzle and narrows the field of possible suspects. She learns that the killings may connect in some way to powerful people within the judicial system and doesn’t know who to trust. Ultimately, she comes face to face with the killer for a battle of brain and brawn. Can she outwit the shrewd killer, or will she be his next victim?

The best thriller book I ever read

I am so mad at myself for not reading the 1st and 2nd book of the Sami Rizzo series. I read the 3rd book A PIECE OF YOU in the series. You still can read this book as stand alone. It is the best thriller book I ever read.

This book will give you insight inside the mind of the killer. It is so eerie yet you will learn what his motives to kill people. I never scared while reading a book before except this one. It is hard to put the book down once you started reading it. This book is a must read if you love thriller.

My favorite character is Sami Rizzo. This girl has no fear. She is very strong woman despite having problems in her marriage. You cannot put this girl down. She will do anything and even offer her life to save people. She received many death threat but never stop until she solved this crime. It is a beautiful book. You will hate and love the killer but above all you will adore Sami Rizzo.

I highly recommend this book from the author. If you have not read his writings, you are missing a piece of your books to read.

Plot vs. Character

Of all the issues related to writing fiction, none is more subjective or controversial than the long-standing argument over which is more important, plot or characters.  Anyone with even the most limited knowledge of fiction—reader or writer—could build a strong case either way, and there is no absolute right or wrong.  As a writer myself, I, of course, have my own opinion; a very strong opinion.  Needless to say, any successful, well-written novel must have both a strong plot and fascinating characters.  That’s a given.  However, I’d like to build a case for characters.

Of all the novels I’ve read throughout my life, those most memorable, locked in my mind forever, are books whose main characters were three dimensional and lifelike.  A novel could have a highly compelling plot, but if interesting characters do not support it, the story will likely go flat no matter how complex, and leave the reader disappointed.  As a novelist, you’re competing with God and that’s no easy task.  To create characters who live and breathe and literally jump off the pages requires a very unique talent.

Not to minimize the importance of plot, it is my strong contention that plots—and please forgive me for saying this—are a dime a dozen.  Consider this: if you pick up any major newspaper in the country and skim through its pages, you can find dozens of plot ideas from real-life situations.  The husband who has two wives—one on the east coast and one on the west coast. The corrupt politician who accepts a bribe.  A national security leak.  A conflict in the Middle East.  For no particular reason a lunatic walks into a classroom and executes the students.  An average Joe rescues a child from a burning building and becomes an overnight hero.

Not only are plots everywhere, but many storylines have a familiar ring. How many times have the two main characters in a romance novel hated each other throughout the book, only to fall in love at the end? How many times has the good guy, the character you least expected, turn out to be the villain? How many books about lawyers and doctors and superheroes follow the same formula? How many times have you read a classic cat and mouse whodunit mystery with a familiar storyline?

On the flip side, have you ever seen the likes of Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, or Scarlet O’Hara in Gone with the Wind? Has either character ever been cloned in any other novel?  Their uniqueness and originality cannot be easily duplicated.  Although the plots for both of these memorable tales were compelling and engaging, it was the main characters that grabbed your attention and kept you turning pages.

The ultimate challenge for all novelists is to write a book with both an original, attention-grabbing plot and fascinating characters.  And this is a tall order.  But remember this: if you create complex, truly intriguing characters, the story can be a lazy tale about someone building a horse barn and your readers will be totally engaged.

The pretty red hair girl Isabella strikes again

I am so happy that there is a 3rd book in the series. I LOVED Isabella, the red hair girl and her families adventure. There is no dull moment about the McGruder family.

This book is full of twist and turns aside from Isabella’s wittiness. Isabella always amazes me. The pretty red hair strikes again to save herself and her family from the bad guy.

First, I am so glad that Bailey’s nightmare is solved. Poor woman she suffered a lot when Isabella was a baby. Good thing she is happy.  Secondly, you can always rely on your family to help one another. Thank you Rose for that.

The author Chris Birdy will keep you guess and entertain. This book is a fun read, full of mystery, a little bit hot and funny too. I really enjoyed reading the book. It is hard to put it down. I highly recommend this book if you love mystery.

About the Author

The Girl in Red Pajamas, the final book in the award-winning mystery trilogy has just been released. This book deals with the question: HOW MANY LIVES CAN THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS DESTROY?Background: For almost twenty-five years, I did investigative work for small law firms conducting business in rough housing projects and crack house neighborhoods. I met with clients in every jail in the area even the now defunct Charles Street Jail and Deer Island House of Corrections. On good days, I got to take the .25 caliber handgun out of my pocket and the 9mm out of my purse and go to court. Then the real show began!

Several years ago, while sitting in a courtroom with a client, I watched as a police officer was lambasted by an attorney. The attorney was defending a young woman who crashed her car into two other vehicles before she passed out drunk behind the wheel. The occupants of the other cars were seriously hurt and the cop, a former EMT, tried to assist the injured while waiting for ambulances to arrive. The attorney questioned the cop’s every move, shredded his testimony and made him seem inept.

Embarrassed, the cop returned to his seat beside me and muttered, “Everybody lies. The judges lie, the lawyers lie, the witnesses lie..” I wanted to tell him not to worry that in about five years he’d be just as good a liar as they were.

The seeds for The Girl in White Pajamas (the first book in the series) were planted in that courtroom.

I was a wreck while reading this book but breathe again

I read the entire book for a day. It is hard to put it down. I was a wreck while reading the book but breathe again. I never cry while reading a book though I am emotional usually. Just Breathe Again made me cry for the first time. I even sobbed.

Ms. Mia Villano did a beautiful job writing this book. It is an amazing read. The story is so emotional and full of sadness. Gosh! I do not know how Jeannie survived with all the tragedy came in her life. She is one very strong woman. Thank you to her best friend Marsha, she breathes again after the catastrophic events that happened in her life.

This book will blown you away. Second chances does happened and when it does, you can stop it and enjoy the ride with that someone that let your heart beat and breathe again. Jeannie and Kane deserved each other.

I really LOVED this book so very much. The BEST read I had this month. I am looking forward to read more books about the author.

Warriors of Strathan Book By Marilyn Lakewood

Book: Warriors of Strathan

Author: Marilyn Lakewood

Genre: Fantasy Romance, Paranormal, Ménage M/F/M

Kellus Aquitar is drawn into the ancient enchanted land of Strathan where he finds the love he craves, a challenge he cannot refuse, and the cause he was destined for.
To keep his sister and parents safe from Rome’s persecution, Kell has been forced to lead his elite cavalry on constant campaign against the enemies of the Republic. Now at thirty-seven, he is weary of senseless bloodshed, petty Roman tyrants, and sleeping in tents. Above all he is tired of sharing women with other men.
On a secret mapping expedition in the mysterious isles of Britannia, his journey takes him away from everything he knows when he discovers a hidden, mysterious world and meets Leis, a woman he desires more than life itself. But to remain in the timeless realm of Strathan he must overcome the endless reach of Roman vengeance — and his deep aversion to sharing.
Leis, an erotic siren of Strathan, can impart immortality to her lovers, but only when bound in a ménage a trois. In a rite of passage, Leis’ magic calls to the outsider, Kell. The newcomer stirs turmoil in Strathan but with eminent attack of the Hobb, Kell’s experience and strategy in war is a welcome asset.
When every warrior is needed to battle the monsters that threaten Strathan, Kell must devise a way to guard Leis, while protecting his sister and parents from Rome’s wrath in the outside world. His plan calls for sacrifice… dark, bloody, and dangerous…but if he survives, he will possess the woman he loves, keep his family safe, and secure his destiny with the Warriors of Strathan.
Immortal warriors, a passionate, loving siren, menage M/F/M, some bondage and discipline, sword battles, monsters, and mayhem.

Warning: Warriors of Strathan contains explicit sex and violence.  Kell, the hero in this story, lives in a different time and culture. His world is harsh and without compassion. It does not conform to current sensibilities, ideals, or laws. There are brief mentions of non-consent in the story, but they are written without extensive detail.

A strange book but amazing story indeed!
At first I question myself, what have I been into arguing to read the ARC of this book? It is not my cup of tea but I still read it to show my respect to the author and to the person that does the blog tour.
I am glad that I did read this book of Ms. Marilyn Lakewood. What a strange book but amazing story indeed. I find myself enjoying the story as I read along. It shows the story of ancient romance and warriors willing to fight their kingdom in honor of their love and devotion.

Kell and Leis are my favorite characters. Their connection is instant. Kell is not from Leis kingdom yet she picked him as his other bonding mate. How romantic yet strange their ritual is. I find it very interesting.
Just like a typical relationship, Kell and Leis are willing to protect and die for each other to save their life and kingdom. Leis really loved Kell with all her heart and willing to sacrifice her life to protect one of her lover. It is my favorite part aside from the fighting and beautiful women in ancient time. I never enjoyed reading ancient history while reading Warriors Of Strathan.
I highly recommend this book if you like to read unique kind of romance with hot warriors.
I received the ARC for review. All my thoughts and opinions are 100% honestly mine.

“Are you replete with food, Roman?”
Kell nodded. “My thanks, I was hungry. Your actions make me welcome.”
      “Are my words less so?”
“Only in tone. I would not cause imposition.”
“You do not impose—you are crucial here.”
“I, alone, cannot win your cause, Torr.” Why these people thought him vital to the upcoming battle, he could not reason.
      “You will aid it.”
Kell drew a patient breath. “If you take me back, I can bring soldiers who are loyal to me and are willing to fight.”
      “They would be killed.”
      “I will not?”
“No. You have purpose in Strathan. Come, I will show you to a sleeping chamber.”
Kell followed Torr into the arched passageway that he, like the warrior, was drawn to. The torchlight cast wavering gold light on the stone walk and on the imposing oaken doors they passed. At the end of the hall, two portals stood opposite each other.
Torr stopped, indicating the open door. “Your rooms are there. You should find what you need within.” He turned toward the closed door, his hand poised on the handle. “My chambers are here. Good night, Roman.” The warrior pressed the latch and entered.
A sudden keen instinct to help these people sent Kell after the man. He stepped into the warrior’s doorway before the portal shut. “Torr, I meant it. I can bring men to aid your cause…”
Kell had not intended to let his eyes wander to the private interior but when they did, his gaze swept past the sumptuous appointments, the finely carved furniture and the huge, fabric draped bed. Instead, his attention seized onto the provocative centerpiece decorating the space.
A woman, suspended by her wrists, hung in quiet tranquility. She was completely nude, her beautiful form, taut and elongated by her position. Her arms were linked together but her ankles shackled apart. Only her toes touched the stone floor.
Her head lolled back, and shiny, bronze-gold hair draped to her waist. She looked unblemished and alluring beyond measure.
His mouth went dry and his cock filled tight with blood, yet he managed to rasp, “A pleasure slave?” Likely chained for her master’s pleasure. A common enough thing in his world. Kell’s fingers gripped the doorframe for support—the impact of the woman so strong.
“In a fashion,” Torr answered cryptically. He paused, halfway into the chamber. “Do you find your room deficient?”
“Then we will talk in the morning.”
Neither man moved.
“Your bed awaits next door, Roman.”
“I would buy her from you.” The words came before thought, driven by intrinsic need.
Torr shook his head. “No amount of coin could equal her value. Tomorrow you will understand more of her worth.” The warrior stepped into the doorway and nodded in dismissal. “Rest well, Roman.”
They both knew he would not.
Meet the Author

Marilyn and her husband live in the northwest U.S., not too far from the Canadian border. She thinks the long, cold winters are perfect “writing weather.” Most of the time, she doesn’t mind the short days, or the snow—except when she needs to drive in a blizzard, in the dark.
Marilyn started writing sexy stories “just for fun” and she’ll joyously admit she’s obsessed with creating hard-core dominant heroes and happily-ever-after endings.
Writing erotic romance lets her explore love, passion, and sex, through the lens of different characters and settings. It’s also a way to keep her imagination kindled during the September to March “cold snap.” Marilyn loves music, flowers, sci-fi and romance movies, and taking daily walks with Precious, her rescued dog.
She’s a country girl at heart, and although she imagines travelling to distant, romantic shores, her favorite place is home with her family.
