Heroic Retelling of a Tragedy
“Fractured Not Broken ,” is a raw retelling of a horrific life changing experience. Kelly Schaefer does a spellbinding job in keeping the reader involved on her road to recovery. The amazing evolution of Kelly’s outlook on life and of her own place in the world after this harrowing experience helps humble you. This book enlightens you on how pain and suffering can be a catalyst to help you grow as a person. After getting hit by a drunk driver, Kelly loses her life as she knew it and must not only live through the physical agony of losing her ability to function normally, but must also experience the pain of losing such a promising young life. Athletic, healthy, and in love, with the world at her fingertips, Kelly had to fight through her desire to just cave in to the negative and reestablish her life around her disability. Not only for herself but also for her younger brother who was also disabled by this misfortune. Adapting and coming to terms with herself, Kelly was able to turn a tragedy into a story of overcoming huge obstacles.
Being a victim of a drunk driver myself I was able to relate to this story on a very personal level. The physical pain of recovery changes you dramatically and there are two ways that things can turn out: you can continue to dwell on the pain and loss of certain physical abilities that you once never gave a second thought to; or take that pain and use it to push you harder when going through your therapy. This event that took away so much from Kelly offered her the opportunity to use her plight for the greater good. Her story can help others that are going through rough situations find the grit and strength to overcome all hurdles life throws your way. You can apply her lesson onto your own life in various life situations. Kelly’s story resonates with bravery and strength. Anyone who reads this book will go away from it, hopefully, with a sense of gratefulness for their own life experiences and the chances they gained from the good and the bad lessons.

Time for celebrations
Michelle is a fulltime employee of God’s kingdom, writing and encouraging writers every day. She’s often a sucker for emotional stories, her sensitive side fueling the passion for her character’s plights, often giving her the ability to show readers the “other” side of the story.
She grew up in the burbs of Detroit with five brothers. No sisters. Each time her mom brought the boy bundle home from the hospital Michelle cried, certain her mom liked boys better than girls. But when her brothers pitched in with the cooking, cleaning, and babysitting—without drama, Michelle discovered having brothers wasn’t so bad. They even taught her how to take direct criticism without flinching, which comes in handy with book reviews.
Michelle is living her dream—writing every day and thanking God for the stories He puts in her path. When Michelle isn’t writing she’s winning ugly on the tennis court. She’s known as “Queen of the Rim Shots.” No joke. It’s ugly.
